What is Delivery Area Surcharge and Extended Delivery Area Surcharge?
Remote areas are generally either less populated or less accessible locations.
For certain remote and less-accessible locations an additional remote area surcharge is applied to cover additional costs incurred.
A Remote Area Surcharge is an additional fee applied by couriers for shipments made to and from locations that the courier deems to be in remote areas.
This means that if the courier does not have a depot near the pickup or delivery address your shipment may be subject to a remote area surcharge.
These are fees applied by the courier and they will show up as adjustment charges on your takeandship.com balance account.

Dimensional Weight Calculation

What Is Dimensional Weight?
Dimensional weight (also known as volumetric weight) is a theoretical weight based on the size of a package, not its actual weight.
Carriers use this method to ensure they charge fairly for bulky, lightweight packages.
If a package has low density (large size but light weight), the carrier charges based on dimensional weight instead of actual weight.
How Carriers Measure Dimensional Weight
Carriers calculate dimensional weight using the longest measurement of each side:
- Length (X)
- Width (Y)
- Height (Z)
These measurements are multiplied to determine the package’s volume.
For standard rectangular boxes, this matches the real volume.
However, for irregular-shaped packages, the calculated volume may be higher than the true volume — meaning the dimensional weight will also be higher.

If the dimensional weight is greater than the actual weight, you are charged based on dimensional weight.
