Why Dimensions Matter: Volumetric vs. Actual Weight

Most international carriers calculate shipping costs based on the greater of two weights:

  • Actual Weight: The physical weight of the parcel.
  • Volumetric Weight (DIM): The space your parcel occupies in the cargo.

Volumetric Weight Formula L×W×H​ / 5000
For example: a box that’s 40 x 30 x 30 cm = (40×30×30) ÷ 5000 = 7.2 kg (volumetric weight)

Tips for Accurate Results

  • Use your seller’s package details or tracking info to estimate size/weight.
  • If you’re bundling items, combine total weight and dimensions.
  • For best results, use this after consolidation or repacking.

Your shipping charge will be based on whichever is greater:

Actual weight (from scale), or
Volumetric weight (from size)
So, providing accurate size and weight ensures you get a realistic quote and avoid surprises later.
